Are you an Outlaw? Meet Kourtney Kurtz

Who has redefined what it means to think outside of the law (AKA Outlaw) and is helping each of us in the process?

Kourtney Kurtz has more than 15 years of experience in legal marketing and business development and serves as the Director of Marketing at Fairfield and Woods, P.C. in Denver. She leads the firm's marketing, business development, communications, and client engagement initiatives, partnering with attorneys to strengthen the firm's brand, drive strategic growth, and deepen client relationships. Outside of work, she loves adventuring with her husband, baby, and dog.

Q: Who is your real-life hero?

A: My parents

Q: Where would you like to live? If there were no limiting factors.

A: I’d like to live in Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland – so beautiful!

Q: What is your greatest fear?

A: I know this is weird, but the sound cotton balls make when they rub together gives me the heebie-jeebies – so I think my nightmare would be getting dunked in a pool full of cotton balls.

Q: Finish this sentence: “If I could have one super-power, it would be...”

A: Teleportation

Q: What got you into working in the legal industry?

A: When I graduated college with a marketing degree, a family friend gave me the piece of advice to look for a company on the Denver Business Journal’s Best Places to Work list. I applied to a few and landed a marketing job at a law firm. I was fortunate to start at a great firm with wonderful mentors, and over the past 15 years, I've had the opportunity to work at firms ranging from large international behemoths to a mid-sized regional boutique, and to my current Goldilocks-fit mid-sized full-service firm. And I did take a year-long hiatus somewhere in the middle there to teach English at a middle school in Italy and to recharge before legal called me back.

Q: Your favorite musician or band?

A: So many – I love live music and live for a good show at Red Rocks – my favorites are Mumford and Sons, Charles Wesley Godwin, Zach Bryan, and Sturgill Simpson. My water actually broke at a Red Rocks show last Oct., and I went straight from the show to the hospital and had my baby!

Q: What is your current state of mind?

A: Organized chaos
