Activating Potential Through Connection, Collaboration, and Creation
By: Sara Goddard
This year’s LMA Midwest conference theme — “Activate Your Potential: Connect. Collaborate. Create.” — perfectly captured the energy and purpose that filled the day. Built on the foundation of momentum and connection, the sessions inspired attendees to not only share ideas but also to turn them into action. Whether the focus was on deepening client relationships, leveraging technology more strategically, or reimagining personal and professional growth, the conversations emphasized the power of collaboration in driving measurable impact.
Grounded in LMA’s Body of Knowledge (BoK), the event’s breakout tracks — More Than a Marketer: Engineering Your Future, Find Your Spark: Accelerating Tech to Drive Success, and Connect the Dots: Propelling Business Development — each offered fresh perspectives on how legal marketing professionals can elevate their roles and results. The overall message was clear: innovation doesn’t always require reinvention, but it does demand intention and alignment.
Key takeaways include:
You don't, and shouldn't, always start from scratch. If you think you need something new, have you taken the time to look at the tools your firm and department already own and use to see if they have additional functionality not already being tapped into? Talk to your vendors and internal teams first!
Everything should always start with the voice of the client. It is not about "us" but about "them" and the outside view.
Know when to let something go in order to move forward.
Fall in love with solving the problem.
