ALM/Law.com Spotlights McCullough as Legal Innovator

Recently, Heather McCullough was named a Legal Innovator by ALM and Law.com. This Thursday, Heather will be recognized with the other honorees at the ALM/Law.com Southeastern Legal Awards in Atlanta.

Law.com has published an article sharing portions of the nominator essay and showcasing the reasons Heather is deserving of the Legal Innovator award, as well as some of the Q&As from Heather.

What are some of your proudest achievements in 2022?

In 2021, we began the work of revamping INform to better meet our clients’ needs. Accomplishing this took building new relationships within the tech industry to improve growing the technology-side of our business. Additionally, we were able to simultaneously retain many of our current clients while bringing on new clients AND increasing the number of Society 54 team members. Finally, doing all of this while we found new ways to serve our clients—through broader talent offerings and consulting services—is something I’m very proud of.

What must the leaders of law firms and other organizations do to ensure they are receptive to new ideas, and to improve the legal profession’s reputation for being innovative?

Leaders must allow the business professionals within the firm to make decisions that are within their area of expertise that will enhance the firm’s offerings. For example, giving CMBDOs [chief marketing and business development officers] the autonomy to create initiatives that are client-facing in order to enhance and improve the overall client experience. Additionally, they must find ways for departments within the firm to collaborate in order to bring innovative ideas, initiatives and solutions for moving the firm forward and allow them to make decisions on behalf of the firm.
