The Role of a Coach

Think back to your favorite coach. Maybe he or she coached you at a sport, an instrument, a creative skill, or perhaps intra- or interpersonal skills. What did this person do that made you appreciate them as a coach? Were they compassionate and understanding? Did they have incredible talent? Did they push you outside of your comfort zone? This answer is different for everyone, but there is likely one commonality.

Great coaches inspire. They offer a path forward, a roadmap to success, small stepping stones of progress. When we feel stuck and unsure where to move next, a great coach can help us step back and evaluate. Looking for a way to accept our March challenge (to take a chance on something) but feeling apprehensive? That is totally normal.

Just remember: Coaches can’t always give us answers, but good coaches can help teach us how to find those answers for ourselves. And that is an invaluable life skill.
