Diversity + Inclusion in Law Firms

One of our previous ClientSPEAK interviewees, Noelle Sproul (VP and Associate General Counsel at Nuveen, formerly of TIAA CREF), shared her insights on the importance of diversity and inclusion in law firms, and how firms can impress her as inside counsel seeking to hire outside counsel. Read her interview.

Diversity is increasingly more valued and important to companies across a wide spectrum of industries, and law firms need to pay attention. It is not only crucial to recognize the need for diversity when hiring and promoting, but to actively pursue candidates that represent a multitude of cultures, races, genders and ages. Diversity and inclusion doesn't stop at hiring, though - these should also be considerations when promoting and electing management as well. Being led by a group with a wide-range of viewpoints is extremely beneficial to a firm's culture, employees and client base.

What is your firm doing to become more diverse in its hiring of attorneys and staff? Can or should you be doing more? Not sure? An easy way to find out: ask your clients.
