ARE YOU AN OUTLAW? MEET SHARON WILLIAMS

WHO HAS REDEFINED WHAT IT MEANS TO THINK OUTSIDE THE LAW (AKA OUTLAW) AND IS HELPING EACH OF US IN THE PROCESS?

Meet Sharon Williams, a Consultant for the South Carolina Bar. Sharon has been a Columbia resident since 1981. The majority of her professional life has been in academia, both private and public; first at Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC and then at the University of South Carolina School of Law.

Giving back to one’s community was instilled in Sharon by her parents at a very early age and, as such, she has served on more than 30 non-profit organizations, boards, and commissions.

Sharon is married to Judge H. Bruce Williams, Chief Judge of the SC Court of Appeals and has two grown daughters.

Enjoy getting to know this Outlaw!

A: From Corinthians, I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

Q: What is your favorite virtue?
A: Perseverance and integrity.

Q: Finish this sentence: “If I won the lottery tomorrow…”
A: I would provide financially for my family, extended family, and godchildren and become even more of a philanthropist focusing on causes/non-profit organizations which can make a difference in this world.

Q: What got you working in the legal industry?
A: I moved from being a clinical psychologist for several years to academia accepting a position as the Assistant Dean of Students at Wofford College.  From there I was recruited and accepted a position with the University of South Carolina School of Law.  I served there for 38 years, most of my tenure as the Assistant Dean for Institutional Advancement.  I created and established numerous programs for students, alumni, and judges and chaired four national conferences on mentoring in the legal profession.
