Are you an Outlaw? Meet Dave Poston
Who has redefined what it means to think outside the law (aka OUTLAW) and is helping each of us in the process? Meet Dave Poston. He is the founder and owner of Poston Communications and more importantly a generous and thoughtful person. Dave certainly thinks outside of the box when it comes to the legal profession and to promoting firms and individuals through various media outlets. We asked him a few questions and excerpts of his answers can be found below. Enjoy getting to know one of our favorite Outlaws better!
Q. What is your idea of happiness? A. Just knowing who I am at 45 and feeling so fortunate for the life I’ve lived and am living. I’m very lucky to be blessed with wonderful family, friends and clients.
Q. Where would you like to live? A. It’s funny, I feel like I actually “live” in three places…Atlanta, Florida and New York City. For now, this is enough!
Q. What is your motto? A. Interesting! I’ve never thought of this. Perhaps: “Be curious about life, choose to be happy and make a significant contribution to those around you.”
Q. Share something that you’ve done in the past that set you apart from your peers? A. Worked as an assistant mountaineering guide for Outward Bound in Germany and Austria.
Q. Always by the book or an occasional cheater? A. By the book.
Q. Better to always tell the truth or are white lies justified? A. Truth. (I think that you have to know when to help society along by putting your analysis on what the truth really is in any given situation.)
Q. Always paying attention or do you daydream? A. Oh, I have to commit to focusing. There are so many interesting things and people to learn about!
Q. What is your greatest fear? A. Of hurting those close to me in some way.
Q. Finish this sentence, If I could have one super-power, it would be .... A. For fun? To read minds. For real? To be able to make things right.
Q. Who are your favorite authors/ what are your favorite books? A. McTeague by Frank Norris. The Kid by Dan Savage.
Q. If you could have dinner with one person, dead or alive, who would it be and why? A. You might laugh at this…Shirley MacClaine. I want to hear about some Hollywood stuff and some of her spiritual journeys as well. And Elon Musk. And the current Pope.
Q. What got you into working in the legal industry? A. I went to law school at Tulane for graduate school, because I really wanted to go to architecture school there as an undergrad.
Q. Your favorite musician/ band? A. Tough one! I just saw “Oh Wonder” in NYC last weekend.
Q. What is your current state of mind? A. Thankful to sweet Carolina career women and moms Jill and Heather for letting me contribute to this.
Q. Your favorite virtue? A. Conscious choices.
Q. What would you consider your greatest achievement? A. Sharing what others have taught me with people working with me.
Q. Who is your real life hero? A. My mom. She’s totally dedicated to me and my family, all while she had a career and has been a wonderful wife to two great men.
Q. Finish this sentence- if I won the lottery tomorrow I would... A. ...buy a house in Ft. Lauderdale. Maybe I really want to live there!
Q. If you could be any animal, what would you be and why? A. A dog, so I could run free with my dog, Hudson.
